Discover Digital Cameras, the Next Greatest Thing in Techonology
Digital cameras are the most popular type of camera nowadays among
consumers. A digital camera takes a picture and stores the image on
a memory card. This image can usually be viewed on a small LCD screen
on the camera, as opposed to a film camera, in which a roll of film
must be developed first in order to view the photo. The image can also
be previewed on this screen before taking the shot rather than looking
through a tiny eyepiece. There are several other reasons why people
choose digital cameras over film cameras.
Probably the most important aspect is that digital cameras are convenient.
The images can be viewed at any time on the LCD screen. Since the images
are stored in memory, you can take as many shots as you like until you
get that perfect shot. You can also scroll through the pictures you’ve
taken. To free up memory, you can delete images that you don't want.
In addition, you can load the images onto your computer and e-mail them
to family and friends. Or you can choose to print only the photos you
like, which are usually just as clear as those produced from a film
camera. In terms of size, digital cameras are more compact, especially
the newer models, so they are handy to bring along for travel. Finally,
most digital cameras have the ability to record mini movie clips (some
even with audio) along with other capabilities that film cameras lack.
All large retail stores have a variety of digital cameras to choose
from. Before you purchase the newest one on the market, you should decide
which one is most suitable for your needs and whether you actually need
a state-of-the-art camera. Before spending your money, you should consider
a few more things.
Resolution
If you plan on printing out your pictures or editing them in computer
software such as Adobe Photoshop, then you will want high quality images.
Resolution on digital cameras is measured by the total pixel count.
A camera with at least 2 megapixels (i.e. 2 million pixels) will produce
quality images. On the other hand, the newer, more expensive models
can have resolution greater than 6 megapixels. Note that the greater
the resolution, the larger the images that can be printed while maintaining
sharpness. You have to find the right balance between cost and benefit.
Type of Digital Camera
Digital cameras come in different models. For the average consumer,
a regular point-and-shoot camera is sufficient. Alternatively, a more
experienced photographer might prefer an SLR (single lens reflex) camera
with zoom lenses and a wide range of manual focus and exposure settings
for greater flexibility.
Rechargeable Batteries
Digital cameras use up batteries quickly, so make sure to purchase one
with rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Obviously, the higher your requirements, the more expensive the digital
camera will be. You have to try to find the right balance between price
and performance. Make sure to test a few before you actually purchase
one. For example, see how easy is it to scroll through the images you’ve
taken and the ease of saving or deleting them. Also, see how a camera
actually compares to its specifications and what you originally had
in mind.
